At Holistic Dental Arts, your first visit is more than a routine dental examination. Our goal is to understand your oral health as part of the bigger picture of your overall health and wellness.
Dr. Baker is a certified biological and holistic dentist through two of the leading organizations in biological dentistry, the International Academy of Biological Dentistry and Medicine (IABDM) and the International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology (IAOMT).
A Comprehensive Biological & Holistic Evaluation
Your initial appointment includes a thorough examination along with carefully selected diagnostic imaging. Depending on your individual needs, this may include traditional two-dimensional dental X-rays as well as a 3D CBCT scan. Your 2D dental X-rays and clinical examination help us evaluate areas such as:
- Tooth decay and existing dental work
- Gum and periodontal health
- Bone levels and supporting structures
- Signs of infection or inflammation
- Root canal-treated teeth and other areas of concern
- Existing crowns, fillings, implants, and restorations
Looking Beyond the Teeth
The 3D CBCT provides Dr. Baker with an expanded view of structures that cannot always be fully evaluated with traditional dental X-rays alone. When appropriate, we may evaluate:
- TMJ and jaw structures
- Airway anatomy
- Sinuses and nasal structures
- Turbinates
- Areas of the jawbone that may warrant further evaluation
- Previously treated or extracted areas
- Root canal-treated teeth
- Bone quality and anatomy
- Other findings that may require additional evaluation or referral
We also consider whether oral structures or conditions may be contributing to concerns involving breathing, sleep, or overall wellness.
Connecting Oral Health and Overall Health
Biological dentistry recognizes that the mouth is part of the body—not something separate from it. During your evaluation, Dr. Baker will consider your medical history, dental history, symptoms, lifestyle, and individual concerns. We look at how your overall health may be influencing your oral health and, when appropriate, whether oral conditions could be contributing to concerns elsewhere in the body. Every patient is different, which is why our recommendations are individualized rather than based on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Our Biological Approach
Depending on your individual needs and treatment plan, our office incorporates biological techniques and technologies including:
- Ozone therapy
- Fluoride-free preventive options
- SMART mercury amalgam removal protocols
- Biocompatibility-conscious restorative dentistry
- Evaluation of existing root canal-treated teeth
- Evaluation and replacement of existing metal restorations when indicated or desired
- Airway and sleep-related dental evaluation
- Minimally invasive and health-conscious treatment whenever appropriate
For patients interested in removing existing amalgam fillings, our office follows the SMART (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) protocol developed by the IAOMT to reduce mercury exposure during removal.
Treatment Plans & Pricing
Because Dr. Baker’s treatment recommendations are highly customized to each patient’s findings, we do not provide treatment pricing before your evaluation. Our team can provide the cost of your initial appointment and explain exactly what is included before you schedule.
After Dr. Baker has completed your examination, reviewed your imaging, discussed your concerns, and determined what treatment—if any—is appropriate, our team can review your personalized treatment plan and associated fees with you. This allows us to give you meaningful information based on what you actually need rather than quoting procedures before we have evaluated your health.
Optional Additional Services
For patients who would like to take their biological evaluation a step further, we also offer access to optional additional services that can provide more individualized information to complement Dr. Baker’s clinical and radiographic evaluation. These may include:
- Biocompatibility Testing with Mercedes — Additional testing that may help guide material selection and biological treatment considerations based on your individual results.
- Quest4 Scan with Brian Donnelly — A biological scan that can provide additional information to consider alongside your dental examination, imaging, health history, and individual concerns.
These services are optional and are not required as part of your initial dental evaluation. However, for patients who choose to complete them, the additional information can help us develop a more comprehensive picture and further individualize how we approach your oral health in relation to your overall health.
